St. Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas for Him II

Posted on: February 9, 2010

Hello ladies,

Yesterday I listed skin care sets for your Valentine’s Day gift, today I want to recommend some colognes for men. A well-chosen cologne can completely transform a man’s image. Because colognes are just as important as clothes guys wear, they are very personal items. So make sure you actually go to Sephora or department stores to see if the cologne is really suitable for your man.

Giorgio Armani's Acqua Di Gio Eau de Toilette

  • Giorgio Armani’s Acqua Di Gio: If your man loves fresh and light scent then he might like this one. Launched in 1997, this cologne has notes such as bergomot, jasmine, mandarine, neroli, persimmon, rosemary, nasturtium, amber, patchouli, and cistus. This cologne is designed with the sea, the sun, the earth, and the breeze of a Mediterranean island in mind. It is very light, very fresh, very transparent, yet masculine. It is suitable for daily wear all year round.

Play Intense by Givenchy

  • Play Intense by Givenchy: Justin Timberlake is the image for both Play and Play Intense. The reason why Givenchy chose Timberlake is because they want to introduce the two scents  as “the scents that embody modern elegance.” Play Intense’s notes include: bergamot, mandarin, Caribbean amyris wood, pink pepper, coffee flower, labdanum, tonka bean, vetiver, and patchouli. Comparing with Play, PLay Intense is richer in character. This scent is rather sensual. It is suitable for a date at night time.

Yves Saint Laurent's La Nuit Del' Homme

  • Yves Saint Laurent’s La Nuit Del’Homme: This new scent was launched in March last year.  This scent is the third variation to the brand’s best seller, YSL’s L’Homme (launched in 2006). Its notes include: bergamot, lavender, vetiver, cardamom, cedar, and coumarin. The image the scent communicates is powerful and mysterious. In my opinion, this cologne is more sweet than mysterious. It is the No. 1 best seller at Sephora.

I hope these two posts help you ladies just a little bit so that your gift searching for St. Valentine’s Day can be a little easier. Finally I would like to quote from a florist from NY featured in this issue’s Vogue: “Cost depreciates, but connection appreciates.” Anyone with money can buy a gift, but with a personal touch, the gift can be very special. I have listed my recommendations, now the rest is up to you. Good luck.
